Born and raised in London, Ontario, Angela Fisher has lived an eventful
life. Her grandmother, a full blooded Chippewa of The Thames native
who passed down to her the love of nature, art and creation. Angela
Fisher is a classically trained fine artist, her artistic background
goes back three generations. She started drawing and painting as
soon as she was able to hold pencil as a child. Her parents, seeing
she had artistic talent, encouraged her greatly as a young child
to utilize her artistic, creative talent. With the encouragement
of her art teacher Mr Buck, at A.B. Lucas she transferred to her
studies in the renowned arts program at the H. B. Beal S. S. In
London Ont. In 1985. After leaving high school she enrolled in the
full time program at Fanshawe College for Photography, and then
Fine Arts. She secured a career as a photographer & darkroom
technician, while continuing her studies at the University of Ontario,
in the fine arts field.
Years later the internet came into play and she continued her education
in studying Internet graphic design and began a career as Graphic
Designer in web developing company she co founded with her husband
called Tradesmen.ca.
Striving for personal challenges, Fisher decided to devote herself
full time to the pursuit of her art. Having travelled extensively
over the years she felt it opened her perspective of the world.
She travelled, to South America, Belize, Grand Cayman, Mayan Rivera,
Hawaii, and all over the US, Chicago, Washington and New York, and
a lot more places, too many to mention.
“My paintings
reflect a lot of what I’ve seen in my travels. I’ve
been fortunate enough to have traveled to some absolutely breath
taking beautiful places, but I see beauty everywhere, including
my own backyard.”
Residing in
London, Ontario, Angela Fisher, joined the art movement that has
been taking place in our downtown core. She worked alongside veteran,
realist artist Andrew Gillet, and landscape artist, Leonard Skinner.
She then joined the Arts Project as one of the resident artist.
Her new Studio (Studio 1A, beside the front doors) is located at
The London Arts Project at 203 Dundas St. Aso known as TAP, The
Arts Project is the heart of a thriving creative community of London.
Fisher’s
primary fascination is with capturing the beauty of our planet and
the life among us. She also explores through an infinite variety
of subject matter. She uses acrylic and oil on canvas, and uses
coloured pencil to create her highly representational drawings.
Fisher is primarily a Realist Artist, but enjoys bringing a contemporary
twist to her art. Refereed to as she like's to call, exaggerate
realism.
Angela Fisher is a member of the London Arts Council, The Arts Project
Society of Artists, The Society of Canadian Artists, the Federation
of Canadian Artists, the Portrait Society of Canada and the International
Guild of Realism.
She has received
many awards and her paintings and drawings are in many private and
corporate collections.
Artist
Statement: Respect for Creation
"At
a very young age I learned to stop and smell the roses. My grandmother
– a full-blooded Chippewa native – taught me to take
the time to see and respect what the world has to offer. Beauty
created everywhere, living among us. She also taught me that you
can recreate that beauty with paint and a surface to paint on. I
believe my artistic talent was passed down from her and from my
mother. My parents also encouraged my artistic abilities, and supported
me with anything I needed to pursue my art. In high school, my art
teacher pulled me aside and suggested I leave the school and enrol
in a high school with a renowned art program – H.B. Beal Secondary
School in London, Ontario. When I finished high school, I went on
to study fine art at Fanshawe College in London, and the University
of Western Ontario.
My studio
now resides in a location that is both supportive and inspirational,
The Arts Project. I am surrounded by other numerous like minded
creative type and strong supporters of the arts. I find it a nurturing
environment for my creativity to flow, and I feel it was the best
move for my career as an artist.
There is
a peace or calm that comes over me when I’m painting. It’s
as though I’m doing everything I was put on this earth to
do. My favourite part of what I do – besides the process –
is the positive emotional reaction that some people get when they
see my work. It makes me very proud of what I do.
I have noticed
patterns in my work. Everything that I paint for myself is natural
– animals, nature, water and the human body. Another pattern
is the fact that I only paint in a realistic style. I believe I
do this for a couple of reasons. The first is it forces me to look
at my subject in a very intense and intimate way. I study things
visually, and I seem to get to enjoy nature to its fullest, which
is in itself a gift. I stop to smell the roses, and see them as
well. I think another reason for my realistic style is that it really
shows my training, technical ability and talent. In addition, viewers
tend to see the detail they might otherwise miss, and tend to get
lost longer in the painting.
Just being
an artist is not enough for me. Painting is one of the strongest
skills I have. Canvas is where I put my visions for others to see.
The paintbrush is my tool to try and make a difference in this world.
I would like to pass on my grandmothers teachings: A respect for
all creation, for nature, for our planet, for animals, and most
of all, for each other. Through my art, I want to make a difference,
and have donated art and raised funds for numerous local and international
charities. If I could use my art to help others heal, or see beauty
in an otherwise uncertain world, I will feel complete"...Angela.
